Caslac – The Tower above Castasegna

1891 Tower at Castellatz

In 1891 William and Henry De Salis rebuilt the tower at Caslac above the Swiss/Italian border at Castasegna, as a monument to the Salis family which has flourished in and around the Bregaglia valley at least since 913 AD.

The Latin inscription on the tower:

CASTELLUM QUOD SUPEREST SALICAEORUM NOMINE ET HABITATIONE NOTI DCCCCXIII CORAM OCULIS EST CONDITA EST HAEC TURRIS MEMORIAE CAUSA GULIELMO ET HENRICO DE SALIS-SOGLIO S R I COMITES MDCCCXCI
